Riff Raff Theater performs regularly at the Englert Theatre in Iowa City, IA. Besides a chance to experience a live show, we announce our writing projects at the show and give away lots of prizes! We'll be announcing our 2008-2009 season soon, with lots of new movies on the horizon and a few big surprises for everyone involved!
Chris likes to brag about seeing the first broadcast of MST3k in 1988. He usually leaves out that he was 7 at the time and didn’t get it. However, he’s grown up a lot since then and is starting to get some of the jokes. Somewhere in this period of comprehension, Chris has spent his free time as a filmmaker and visual effects artist, most notably co-writing and VFX Supervising the hit fan parody, “Return of Pink Five”. A graduate of the Digital Animation & Visual Effects (DAVE) School, Chris now earns a living as a 3d artist in the gaming industry and moonlighting as an improv performer and “Professional Protector of the Public from Putrid Cinema.” It won’t fit on the business card though.
Also known by his real name to his close friends, this generously proportioned Libra has chosen the singular name of “Danuuc” for his public persona. Much like Madonna, Cher, Santana and Stephen King’s “It”, Danuuc has had an impact on local audiences seeking comedic fulfillment. Danuuc also currently performs as “Agent Danuuc” with Eastern Iowa’s Premier Improv Comedy Troupe, Comics In Action. On stage with his fellow agents, he’s able to release years of pent up embarrassment by delivering fast-paced, short-form improv delivered with all the nominal energy of a divebombing kamikaze pilot. Finally, the ability to apply obscure references and a life of memorizing movie quotes FINALLY PAYS OFF!!
By day he’s a mild mannered Registered Financial Representative, but by night he may be one of the funniest guys in the corridor. Todd Gutknecht was a finalist in The Funniest Person in Eastern Iowa, as well as having been a featured (warm-up) act for noted touring Headliners like Wild Bill Bauer of Bob and Tom Fame, and Judah Friedlander of NBC’s hit comedy 30 Rock. He has also been a performer with Northeast Iowa’ premier Improv Troupe, Comics in Action. Even if you haven’t seen Todd perform live, there is a very good chance that you’ve heard him, or one of his more than 250 voices, on the radio in more than 200 radio commercials that he has performed for markets all across the country. That still leaves 50 voices as of yet unheard on the airwaves… be ready!
James Whistler (a.k.a. Chaos), our head writer, is a computer engineer, database administrator, and programmer by trade. He is also a long-time fan of cheesy and outright bad movies - for their entertainment value. Even as a child, James was well-known amongst his family and friends for being unimpressed by the plot and special effects of any given movie, and he soon learned to find enjoyment at the movies by mocking them rather than taking them seriously. A self proclaimed “individual anarchist,” James brings a cynical and wry sense of humor to Riff Raff Theater.
